What is Gelato?
Gelato is a creamy, frozen confection built upon centuries of Italian culinary tradition. Originally made for Italian royalty, gelato is now immensely popular throughout Europe and much of the world. Richer, denser, and more flavorful than its American cousin, gelato distinguishes itself markedly from ice cream. There are two significant differences in production. The first is the use of significantly less cream giving gelato a bolder richer flavor unobstructed by excess butterfat. The second difference is the slow churned freezing process that gives gelato a denser consistency and smoother texture. These distinctions give gelato an advantage in flavor and texture, leading to what becomes a culinary experience rather than a sweet treat.
